How to make an AI cockroach video that talks (in one line)

You don't need a paragraph-long prompt to make a talking cockroach video. In Roachy you type the line, the cartoon cockroach turns to the camera and says it out loud with matching mouth movements, and a vertical clip lands in My Videos. This guide shows the exact steps, what to write, and the settings that matter.

  1. Open the Create tab

Roachy opens on Discover, a wall of videos other people made. Tap Create to get the text box. If you saw something you liked on Discover, tap it and hit Make this: its text lands in the box and you can change it.

  2. Type what the roach should say

One sentence is enough: "It's 6 PM, nobody give me any more work." Whatever language you type in is the language the roach speaks. Keep it short; the length sets itself from your lines (5 to 10 seconds), so one or two sentences fit easily. Stuck? Open Need an idea?, pick a category and tap a ready-made idea; its text lands in the box.

  3. Put the scene in the text (optional)

There is no separate scene menu. Just write where it happens: "A roach stuck in traffic yells: I wasn't late, the traffic came early." Office, couch, kitchen, stadium stands: the scene is whatever you describe.

  4. Pick shape and quality

Choose vertical (9:16) or horizontal (16:9). There's no length to set: it follows your lines, between 5 and 10 seconds. Every video costs the same one allowance whatever you pick.

  5. Tap Create and wait for the ping

The video is made on our servers, so you can close the app. You get a notification when it's ready, usually within seconds to a minute. Open My Videos, save it to your gallery or share it straight into the group chat.

What actually happens to your text

Before the video is made, a quick pre-check turns every character in your text into a cockroach. Write "a cat in the kitchen says the soup needs salt" and you get a cat-roach in the kitchen. Names, jerseys, jobs and moods survive; only the species changes. The spoken lines are left exactly as you wrote them: no rewording, no translation, no autocorrect.

That is also why you don't have to write "cartoon cockroach, humanoid, lip-synced, cinematic lighting" like people do in general video tools. The roach part is built in; your job is the joke.

Three ways to write it

  • A single line. The roach looks at the camera and says it. Best for roasts and one-liners: "Read your message. Chose peace."
  • A short scene. Say where it happens and what the roach does, with the line in quotes: "A roach at the gym drops the dumbbell and says: I'll start Monday. Again."
  • A dialogue. Write each line as Who: what they say and two roaches take turns in the same video. See the two-roach dialogue guide.

Lines that work (and lines that don't)

  • Short beats long. Ten seconds is the maximum; three sentences is already a lot.
  • Give the roach an attitude: tired, smug, dramatic. Mood words change the delivery.
  • Write in the language you want to hear. Turkish in, Turkish out; Spanish in, Spanish out.
  • Skip real people and real club names. Colors and roles ("the red roach", "the boss roach") are funnier anyway and keep you out of trouble.
  • Sexual content is blocked before generation. Anything the AI provider's own moderation refuses will also come back empty.

Roachy vs. writing your own long prompt

Most "how to make an AI cockroach video" tutorials walk you through Google Flow or the Gemini app with a 60-word prompt describing the roach, the lighting and the camera. That route gives you full control and works for any subject. Roachy only does one thing: a talking roach, from one line, on your phone, vertical, ready to send. If you want the full comparison with what each tool costs, read best apps for AI cockroach videos.

The AI cockroach trend: where did it come from?

Short answer: AI videos that spread on X, Instagram and TikTok in summer 2026. There's no single owner or confirmed first video, but the format is always the same: a humanoid cockroach on the couch, watching a match or scrolling its phone, turns to the camera and vents. The topics are football fandom, phone addiction, sleepless nights and running late for work. The first clips were made in Gemini and Google Flow with 60-word prompts, and "comment 'prompt' if you want to know how" became part of the trend. Roachy only needs the joke part of that prompt: type what the roach says, the rest is built in.

What you don't have to do (and can't)

  • No character to build. There is no photo or image upload; the cartoon cockroach is the character, and every person or animal you mention becomes one.
  • No voice to pick. The voice comes from the video model based on your text. There is no voice list, no cloning and no audio upload.
  • No square video. Vertical (9:16) by default or horizontal (16:9); there is no square option.
  • No editing step. Roachy doesn't trim, add captions or add music. Save the clip to your gallery or share it; if you want captions, add them in a separate editor afterwards.
  • No scene menu. Where it happens is part of the line: "in the elevator", "at the fridge", "in the stands".

Creating videos in Roachy needs a subscription (weekly or yearly, no free trial). It includes 2 videos a day, up to 30 a month. Current prices are shown in the app. Roachy is for users 18+.

Questions

How do I make an AI cockroach video for free?

Roachy isn't free: the app is a free download, but creating videos needs a subscription and there's no trial. Free routes exist in general tools with daily limits and long prompts; our comparison page lists them honestly.

Which AI is used to make the cockroach videos?

Most of the trend's clips and tutorials use Google's Gemini and Flow tools with long prompts. Roachy doesn't need either: you type the line and the video is generated on our servers. We compare all the options on the best apps page.

Can the cockroach dance?

Roachy makes talking videos: the roach turns to the camera and says your line with moving lips. There is no dance mode and no music track.

How long does a Roachy video take to generate?

Usually seconds to about a minute. The video is rendered on our servers and you get a notification, so you don't have to keep the app open.

Can the cockroach speak my language?

Yes. It speaks whatever language you type, with no setting to change. The app's menus come in 11 languages, but the roach isn't limited to those.

Can I upload my photo or make the roach look like someone?

No. Roachy doesn't take photos, faces or voices. Every character becomes a cartoon cockroach; only the text is yours.

Is the video vertical or horizontal?

Vertical (9:16) by default, made for TikTok, Reels, Shorts and WhatsApp; you can switch to horizontal (16:9). The length follows your lines (5 to 10 seconds).

What is a talking cockroach video?

A short vertical AI clip in which a cartoon cockroach says a line out loud with matching mouth movements. In Roachy you type the line (and, if you like, where it happens), and a 3-to-10-second video is generated on our servers in the language you wrote.

Does the video come with sound, or do I add a voice afterwards?

It comes with sound. The roach speaks your line out loud with matching mouth movements, in the language you typed; there is nothing to record, upload or pick. If you want music or captions on top, add them in a separate editor after saving the clip.
