School and Exam Cockroach Videos: Finals Week, Teachers, Dorm Life

A school cockroach video is the study-break meme that takes less time than opening your notes. Type one line about finals, homework, the teacher or the dorm, and a cartoon roach says it lip-synced in a short vertical clip for the class group.

School is funny because the stakes feel enormous and the behavior is ridiculous. Studying the whole semester in one night, the "I didn't study either" liar, the group project with one worker, the 8 AM lecture. All of it deserves a roach.

8 ideas

  • Whole Semester Tonight

The exam is tomorrow. The semester starts tonight. Wish me luck.

Finals-eve post for the class group; everyone's in the same boat.

  • I Didn't Study Either

"I didn't study either." Then gets a 97. I know what you are.

For the friend who lies about not studying; instantly recognizable.

  • Group Project Math

Group project: five names on the slide, one person in the document.

Send it to the group project chat and watch four people go quiet.

  • Is This on the Test

"Will this be on the test?" is not a question. It's a cry for help.

The class-clown question, delivered by the roach who asked it.

  • Roach in the Library

A roach at a library desk at 2 AM, surrounded by energy drink cans, staring at page one, whispering: "I've read this sentence nine times."

Finals week at 2 AM, one frame, painful accuracy.

  • Dorm Room Alarm

A roach in a dorm bed, six alarms going off on the phone, mumbling: "The 8 AM lecture is a suggestion."

Every dorm floor has this roach; probably you.

  • Teacher Roach, Student Roach

Teacher roach: Where's your homework? Student roach: In the cloud. Teacher roach: Which cloud?

The homework excuse, updated for this decade.

  • Study Group Reality

Roach: Study group at 7. Bring notes. Second roach: I'll bring snacks. Roach: That's not notes.

The study group that becomes a dinner; send it to the snack person.

Finals week is a meme week

Finals week produces more memes than knowledge, and that's fine. Everyone is awake at 2 AM, everyone has read the same sentence nine times, and everyone needs a reason to look at their phone for ten more seconds. A school cockroach video is the perfect study break: type one line about the exam, the group project or the 8 AM lecture, and a cartoon roach delivers it with the exhaustion you feel. It's short, it's vertical, and it hits the class group chat before anyone has opened a textbook.

Teacher roach, student roach: writing the exchange

School humor is naturally two-sided, so write dialogue. "Teacher roach: Where's your homework?" and "Student roach: In the cloud." already tells the story; a third line closes it. Whoever you name before the colon becomes a cockroach on screen, and the words after the colon are spoken exactly as typed, so proofread before you tap Create. Keep lines short so three of them fit in 10 seconds. If you want a single narrator instead, describe the scene: the library at 2 AM, the dorm bed with six alarms, the exam hall with a frozen pencil.

  • Three lines: setup, excuse, verdict
  • Roles as names: Teacher roach, Student roach, Professor roach, RA roach
  • Quote the excuse exactly; typos will be read out loud

Class group, dorm chat, study break: where it goes

The class group is where the group project roast belongs; the dorm chat is for the alarm clip; your story is for the 2 AM library scene so people know you're suffering publicly. Because the video is vertical and under 10 seconds, it works in all three without trimming. Save it from My Videos, share it, and then, honestly, go back to studying. If you're out of ideas, the Discover wall shows what other people are making, and "Make this" drops their text straight into your Create box to edit.

How to make it in Roachy

  1. Open the Create tab and type the line, or a "Teacher roach: / Student roach:" exchange, with the place in the text if you want one (library, dorm, exam hall).
  2. Choose a length between 3 and 10 seconds and a quality, then tap Create and go back to pretending to study.
  3. You get a notification when it's done. Open My Videos, save the clip, and post it to the class chat.

Questions

Where do I download Roachy? Is there a web version?

Roachy: AI Talking Cockroach is on Google Play for Android, and the iPhone app is coming soon to the App Store. There is no web or desktop version; videos are made in the app and land in My Videos on your phone.

Should the class group chat video be vertical or horizontal?

Vertical (9:16) is the default and plays best in a messaging app; pick horizontal (16:9) on the Create screen if it's going on a projector or a TV. The length follows your lines (5 to 10 seconds), and every video counts as one video either way.

I'm out of ideas. Where do I find prompts?

Open the Discover wall in the app: it shows videos other people made, anonymously. Tap "Make this" on one you like and its text jumps into your Create box, ready to edit. The prompts on this page work too; copy any of them straight in.
